Type of eccentric exercise in prevention of biceps femoris injury in football: a proposal.

Abstract : 12% of all football injuries are hamstring injuries. No significant improvement in appearance and recurrence of this injury since 30 years ago. Among hamstring injuries, 70-80% are biceps femoris (BF) injuries. Exercises which perform the injury mechanism should be searched in order to prevent the injury. Because of that, this study focus eccentric strength as the key factor in BF injury prevention but it also takes account injury mechanism characteristics. This proposal aims to evaluate if the exercise type has an influence on the number of hamstring injuries recorded during the season. A randomized controlled trial with two groups and two prevention protocols is proposed: Specific group (SG): Intervention group will carry out a protocol based on exercises which have shown to be optimums for BF and are similar to injury mechanism. Non-Specific group (nSG): Control group will carry out a protocol based on exercises which are described on bibliography like hamstring eccentric exercises but are not similar to injury mechanism

Summary
12% of all football injuries are hamstring injuries.
A randomized controlled trial with two groups and two prevention protocols is proposed:
Specific group (SG): Intervention group will carry out a protocol based on exercises which have shown to be optimums for BF and are similar to injury mechanism.
Non-Specific group (nSG): Control group will carry out a protocol based on exercises which are described on bibliography like hamstring eccentric exercises but are not similar to injury mechanism.
