Abstract: Dysphagia is a very prevalent problem in the clinical setting; the most frequent neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, aging itself and some types of cancer, among many other aetiologies, can cause this problem with such serious consequences as pneumonias, malnutrition and dehydration or immunodeficiency states. This lecture aims to bring physiotherapists closer to the early detection of dysphagia and to show rehabilitation techniques used during the physiotherapy treatment of dysphagia. There is a need for physiotherapy professionals to include dysphagia reeducation during rehabilitation treatment. Frequently, physiotherapy treatments of neurological and geriatric patients can be very conditioned because of dysphagia, if we detect and treat it properly, the rehabilitation treatment will obtain better results.
Abstract : La disfagia es un problema muy prevalente en el ámbito clínico; las enfermedades neurológicas y neurodegenerativas más frecuentes, el propio envejecimiento y algunos tipos de cáncer, entre otras muchas etiologías, pueden causar este problema de consecuencias tan graves como son las neumonías, malnutrición y deshidratación o estados de inmunodeficiencia. Esta ponencia tiene como objetivo aproximar a los fisioterapeutas en la detección precoz de la disfagia y mostrar técnicas de rehabilitación que se utilizan durante el tratamiento de fisioterapia de la disfagia. Se necesitan profesionales de la fisioterapia que incluyan durante el tratamiento rehabilitador la reeducación de la disfagia. Frecuentemente, los tratamientos de fisioterapia de pacientes neurológicos y geriátricos pueden verse muy condicionados por culpa de la disfagia, si la detectamos y la tratamos adecuadamente, el tratamiento rehabilitador obtendrá mejores resultados.
