Abstract: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2001, has led to a perspective change on our way to understand disability and its management. The concept of health from the biopsychosocial model considers not only biomedical factors but also the contextual factors of the person and the positive and negative impact that those factors have on their level of functioning. It also considers the different constructs of activity: capacity and performance. Within this new framework, the focus of physiotherapeutic intervention is on maximizing the individual's participation instead of the normalization of impairments. The role of the family has changed and should also be highlighted; previously, families just followed the indications given by the therapists, while now they actively participate in both the setting and achievement of goals. The ICF has brought a change of mindset, which implies that therapists should review our way of treating children with developmental disorders. Therefore, modifications must be implemented, not only in our therapy sessions with the child but also in how we involve the family in the therapeutic process.

Summary
The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2001, has led to a perspective change on our way to understand disability and its management.
Introduction
The introduction of the ICF has had a great impact on pediatric physical therapy, especially in the field of childhood disability. Its framework based on the biopsychosocial model has led to remarkable changes in the way we take care of children and their families.
Objectives
To present how the ICF has changed our approach to childhood disability, and how its framework has modified the assessment and the intervention.
Material and methods
Going deep into the ICF framework to understand the dynamic relationship between its elements, and how, through this framework, we can identify the level of functioning of the patient. This will help us to identify which elements should be prioritized in the treatment plan.
To work with the ICF framework, it's essential that patients and their families could have the opportunity to explain their main concerns and provide relevant information about day-to-day life. With all the information gathered, therapists and families will have the opportunity to set the goals together and to design a treatment plan focused on participation.
The role of the family is not only essential in the process of identifying and setting goals, but also in achieving them, given that current evidence on motor learning shows the importance of the specific task practice in the natural environment of the child.
Results
The ICF framework allows us to obtain a profile of a child's level of functioning to set the most significant goals and select the appropriate interventions to improve participation.
Conclusions
Following the WHO guidelines, current pediatric physical therapy in the field of childhood disability should aim to improve participation in daily life, involving patients and their families in the whole therapeutic process.
