Abstract: This pilot study evaluates the unilateral Awake® exoskeleton, a bionic device that robotizes only the paretic lower limb in stroke patients, leaving the healthy leg free, which makes it lighter and simpler to use than conventional bilateral exoskeletons. The aim is to determine its usability, safety, and benefits in gait rehabilitation. Through an uncontrolled clinical trial with 9 patients (18-80 years old) with post-stroke hemiparesis/hemiplegia, 21 physiotherapy sessions were carried out using the exoskeleton, measuring variables such as balance (BBS), gait speed (10mWT), spasticity (MAS), functional capacity (FAC), and pain. Of the 9 patients who completed the study, improvements were observed in BBS, 10mWT, MAS, FAC, and the Barthel Index. No serious adverse events were reported. It is concluded that the Awake® is a useful, safe, and beneficial device for gait rehabilitation in stroke patients.
